Indian Govt. over the years has been thriving hard to increase manufacturing in India. The MAKE – IN – INDIA concept is fast taking shape and more and more foreign companies are getting interested to start business in India – a growing market.

The steps taken by the Indian government towards an open sky policy, increases in military, civil and business aircraft fleets in country, the growing preference for air travel by India's middle class, and the focus by industry on optimising the cost of operations and above all the make in India coupled with offset obligations all provide a strong foundation for the Indian MRO/manufacturing industry to strengthen its capability to meet global standards.

The Indian Military have substantial budgets available over the next 5 years with major acquisitions of new capital equipment and its life cycle support. Key programmes include C130J, C17, MMRCA, P8i, Apache, Chinook and Apache for the IAF; Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft and Multi Role Helicopters for the Indian Navy; Multi Role Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard and many more. Similarly the Indian civil aviation sector is expanding at rapid pace and the number of small, medium, large aircraft is going to be doubled in next five to seven years.

With this extensive procurement exercise within India, the Indian Government wishes to ensure its indigenous industry to play an increasing greater role, starting with in country sustainment and progressively moving to full assembly and license manufacturing. This will offer opportunities to all the companies willing to do business in India-be it aerospace, infrastructure, IT and others.

Indian operators have experienced a number of maintenance related issues of such complex and varied assets due to different elements that are required for its operational deployment. This necessitates avenues which would be able to ensure unhindered availability of these critical assets. After due deliberations it was opined to enter into LTMA (Long Term Maintenance agreement)/ FOS (Follow On Support) depending on seller. There are different models for this, but as far as seller is concerned, the base line is supporting the maintenance as per user requirements which are very clearly defined. The task becomes more challenging as Indian Government through offset obligations wishes to ensure its indigenous industry to play an increasing greater role, starting with in country sustainment and progressively moving towards manufacturing. This policy will drive the strategy for foreign companies towards the need for securing appropriate partnerships with Indian companies which would give them the cost benefits and also help to meet offset obligations. The path has to be carefully treaded.

The Indian aviation industry as a whole as such is presently at an important crossroads. There are number of players who are venturing into aviation sector. SAVIA is aware that no single company in India can presently undertake total aerospace maintenance/manufacturing/ offset solutions/supply process as a single entity The other reality being, that is not financially and operationally suitable for OEMs to take on responsibility on its own due to various reasons including cost, knowledge of local rules and regulations, contact with multiple companies and establishing required infrastructure. The efforts of different in country companies supporting OEMs needs both in terms of sustainment and offset management are to be coordinated to achieve effective, low cost with quality maintenance of aircraft systems/aggregates and ground support equipment to full satisfaction of customer. Our high value services in coordinating these efforts are provided as a project management team to enhance in country capabilities to address the specific requirements be it maintenance or manufacture, to meet this dual program ( Both life cycle support and Offset solutions) requirements of OEMs.

Govt. of India is thriving hard to built on smart cities and Digital India concept will further offer opportunities to IT companies to place there foot hold in Indian market.
